World Wetlands Day, 2 February
I celebrate with Eos in an estuary with a samphire plain a little further upriver.
More than 64% of the world’s wetlands have disappeared since 1900 and more are being drained, despite them being very productive ecosystems.
And then helios appears when human activities: fun, breakfast, art and technologies usually kick in. But it’s not enough to have fun anymore . . . the natural world is running out of time to stay healthy and rich.
We are escaping from reality from the moment we wake to the moment we dream. ‘The world of Harlequin romance . . . there are times when you just want to be comforted . . . it is a way of escaping your narrow limits . . . Sometimes we need our fantasies to get away from the world.’ Yann Martel. How can we find the energy and enthusiasm to be creatively ethical?
