I realised I was English, 14 Sept

, . . at lunch the other day with friends down the road. I was the only one to spread butter on my cheese and biscuits, and just now, listening to ‘Teenage Winter’ from Tales from Turnpike House, get a dose of nostalgia from: ‘a Subbuteo catalogue (I was school champion, beat Chelsea (Webster) 4-2 in 1968), ‘buys another round’, ‘Sainsbury’s’.

While photographing what I could see as we listened – a very good Hi-fi system with a great view.

And then the Cockatoos fly around us – and I lose my sense of Englishness.
