My mother is 90!
She is intelligent and funny, empathetic and generous. She could have done anything, but coming from a poor working class family in Liverpool and marrying my father and becoming a housewife, her options were limited. She still enjoyed the high life for a while as a private midwife after the war.
Born the same day as the Queen, her birthday began with a wonderful choir from Longmeadow School, a party for 80, then a family lunch,and finally appearing on the One Show at the BBC and being waved off by staff who really warmed to her.
