World Wetlands Day Feb 2

World Wetlands Day, Feb 2

Great Egret, 2 Feb, mangroves, Nambucca River

‘Wetlands and Water’ is the (unsurprising) theme this year.

We have only recently been ware of how important wetlands are for biodiversity and productivity, and how precarious their existence is. 64% of the world’s wetlands have disappeared since 1900 – and they are disappearing three times faster than forests.

I’m writing letters this arvo, re: logging as it happens. As Suzi Gablik writes in The Reenchantment of Art, ‘The great collective project has, in fact, presented itself. It is that of saving the earth – at this point, nothing else really matters.’Check out six of the best Australian wetlands to visit here.
