Tawny Frogmouths

Usually Frogmouths are cryptic, choosing to roost during the day well camouflaged and dead still.

Nov 25th. They had been roosting in a Bleeding Heart Tree (Native Poplar), again, not a great choice for camouflage with thin smooth brown limbs.

This pair did keep still when Wyn sprayed them while watering the tree ferns, not anticipating their unusual roost. The younger one, however, could not keep still for long and was busy preening off and on.

Later in the afternoon, the older one went for a sunbathe, to get rid if parasites.
