Claude Monet painted ‘Impression, Sunrise’ (Impression, Soleil levant) in 1872, and it is the oil painting that gave the name to the Impressionist movement. It was painted at Le Havre at dawn, but in later exhibitions was called sunset – strange how the two can be confused.
