Out West past Manila
Silk scarves flying as the sun slips beneath
a Turquoise Parrot spinning colour on jewelled wings
brighter than Rainbow Bee-eaters, Rainbow Lorikeets or rainbows.
Brilliant blue wings charged by electric current,
a golden belly, red flash and green shimmer
reaching the limit of colour. I feel naked.
And in the flowering Ironbarks, scores
of Musk Lorikeets are fighting Friarbirds,
or finding a branch for grooming with a mate.
