Only a few native deciduous species live in NSW, primarily in rainforest areas.
The best known species are Red Cedar, White Cedar and the Illawarra Flame Tree. Australia’s trees have adapted to a hotter climate favouring smaller, harder, evergreen leaves that can withstand drought and fire.
We have two fast-growing Bleeding Heart trees (Homalanthus populifolius) in our tiny rainforest garden.
We have been to British Columbia in the Fall and that was amazing, being showered in the colours of deep red all the way to gold That was 36 years ago. We step out of our house today and are find colours in beautiful heart-shaped leaves.
