A cliff-face Coastal Banksia, one flower left
past its best arranged against whipped foam
while north, terra glazes to white slip.
A solitary tooth-white tern represents Aves.

The warped tree is rooted in captivity, makes
a living, bent backwards by onshore winds
a lower branch, bristling with leaves, sweeps
impatient with Basho’s cypress tree and sabi.
