Only a few native deciduous species live in NSW, primarily in rainforest areas.
The best known are Red Cedar, White Cedar and the Illawarra Flame Tree. Australia’s trees have adapted to a hotter climate favouring smaller, hard evergreens leaves that can withstand droughts and fire.
We have two fast-growing Bleeding Heart trees (Homalanthus populifolius) in our tiny rainforest garden.
We have been to British Columbia in the Fall and that was amazing but that was 36 years. We step out of our house and are blinded by colour and beautiful heart-shaped leaves.
