Uncle Michael ‘Micklo’ Jarrett’s Welcome to Gumbaynggirr Country

Uncle Michael ‘Micklo’ Jarrett’s Welcome to Gumbaynggirr Country

Koala Action Day, Valla Beach, Gumbaynggirr  Country. Feb 6, 2021.

This is a rough video I took for myself to learn some language, but I think it shows Micklo’s personality and passion for his culture and this beautiful Gumbaynggirr Country, and for sharing his skills and knowledge with us all. It also offers a lesson in the Gumbaynggirr language.

He gave me permission to upload. Councillor Susan Jenvey who is sitting beside him introduced the day. Valla Beach Community Association are helping Nambucca Valley Council with Koala Action Day.

The heart of the day is an ongoing project to connect with landowners to provide Koala food and habitat trees in significant areas, corridors for example, where the ferocious fires of late 2019 occurred. There will also be a community tree planting day in the near future.

With thanks to John Laidler for wrangling’
