Frogs

Frogs are here all year round, but the recent rain has brought out the songsters (a generous term), and in the last few weeks tadpoles have been appearing, and then of course the frogs.

Frogs are having a tough time all around the world. That’s because of habitat loss and pollution – they are like canaries in a mine, warning of danger.

Dr Lewis said to survive, the Booroolong frog needed pure, rippling water, free from feral fish, silt and contaminants. He said in the same way mine canaries of the past alerted miners to dangerous gases in a shaft, the frog was a perfect warning system showing there were problems in the environment.
