Waiting for the loudest insect in the world

Bronze Bark-buzzers have been flying about the last few days and this afternoon listening to Scarlet Honeyeaters and Golden Whistlers I realised the Double-Drummers will be emerging any day now and the bird song will be extinguished by the loudest insect in the world.

“The Double Drummer seems to have a tendency to fly out to sea. Thousands of individuals have been reported as far as 8 km offshore. Their bodies are sometimes washed up on beaches. (http://australianmuseum.net.au). We have enough carnage on our beaches this time of year with the shearwaters but  have never witnessed this lemming like behaviour.

Each year different birds nests reveal themselves. The latest are the nests of Friarbirds and finches.
