The moon was probably created when an asteroid roughly the size of Mars hit our planet not long after the birth of our solar system c4.5 billion years ago. It is not round but egg shaped with an end pointing at us. About 49 moons would fit inside Earth.
In China, the dark shadows that are on the moon are called “the toad in the moon”, these craters were caused by intense bombardment by rocks around 4 billion years ago.
