Flow – a new project
The Romantics viewed the river an emblem of both flux and of stability. Now rivers are often symbols of land degradation and misguided human interventions.
River and sea share turbulence where the nonlinear and unpredictable occurs – Chaos.
Traditional science supposes laws can always predict phenomena, but art improvises and investigates in unforeseeable ways.
The Romantics used the river as a powerful emblem of the workings of the mind: springs were associated with inspiration (Wordsworth and Coleridge loved to trace rivers to their sources); waterfalls with the abyss; and meanders with memories that circle repeating.
“Flow is the mental state of operation in which a person performing an activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energised focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity.” Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
Taking these images I feel the flow, feel ‘in the zone’.
