Bushfires in our region, photographs

There have been bushfires further west and south for weeks but today Friday 8th there are a whole series (70 in the Mid-North Coast and Northern Rivers, many out of control). The ABC website reports: The NSW Rural Fire Service says there have never before been so many fires burning at emergency level across the state and is warning conditions could worsen tonight.

I was in the garden and heard the deep roar of a helicopter (menacing after Apocalypse Now). The machine emerged out of the forest heading south dangling its hose.

I feel for the firies who must be exhausted. It is a frightening series of fires, some are joining  together. Hot conditions are forecast again for Tuesday. I feel for people who have lost their home to the south, that is a devastating loss. Let’s hope no-one has lost their life. But I also worry about the death and destruction of our wildlife and habitat, already under great stress.
