Aleppo, Syria, May 15
Aleppo has been immersed in the bloody civil war for the past nine months. It is the bloodiest battleground in the civil war. What began as part of the ‘Arab Spring’ a democratic revolt against an autocratic regime has been complicated by the introduction of jihadist groups in Syria.
What has happened to these two guys who picked up a friend and I hitch-hiking, showed us around, took us to the citadel. It was a beautiful city and a World Heritage site, but what of the children and the parents and the grandparents of the few people we met. Children are going hungry. How does this come about?
This photograph, taken from the Citadel of Aleppo rising above the old walled city, shows three young guys confident of tomorrow.
